Description
The Shenyang FT-6 was the export designation of the JJ-6 advanced two-seat trainer, designed and built in China. Based on the single seat J-6 Farmer C interceptor, it was an all-metal mid-wing monoplane powered by two WP-6A (an uprated licence-built Mikulin RD-9B) turbojets and was designed for supersonic fighter pilot training. The armament consisted of a single 30mm cannon and due to the addition of a second cokcpit in the fuselage it had its internal fuel capacity reduced. Production amounted to about 630 aircraft, with some machines exported in 1980 to Pakistan under the designation FT-6. Other “second-hand” operators of the FT-6 trainers were Albania, Bangladesh, Egypt, North Vietnam, Somalia and Tanzania.
