Representing army co-operation and observation aircraft ideas of the mid-1930s, the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch (Stork) was virtually a ubiquitous vehicle of the German Luftwaffe during WWII. Its short take-off and landing and slow-flying capabilities were utilised by many other military and civilian users not only in Europe. During and after the war these aeroplanes were also manufactured in France, Romania and Czechoslovakia, with a total production number exceeding the 4,000-piece figure.
