The Wessex was a British development of the American Sikorsky S-58\/H-34 multi-role helicopter. It was produced under licence by Westland Aircraft. The type entered operational service in 1961, and had a service life in excess of 40 years before being retired in the UK. It primarily served with the Royal Air Force, the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy.<\/p>\n
