Description

The Fairey Fulmar was acarrier-borne fighter and long-range reconnaissance aeroplane used by the FAA at the beginning of WWII. It was a reliable, sturdy aircraft with long range and an effective armament. Fulmars played an important role in the defence of Malta, participated in the Allied landings in the North Africa, and defended convoys bound for the USSR. During their service with the Fleet, they accounted for nearly a third of all FAA aircraft kills in WWII. While continuing service as a trainer and reconnaissance aircraft later in the war, the Fulmar was withdrawn from front line service in the spring of 1945.
